This toolkit is designed to be plug-and-play, giving you ready-to-use language, visuals, and messaging that can be quickly adapted for your local community.
Start simple.
Begin with the elevator speech or website copy to establish a clear, consistent explanation of property taxes. Use this language whenever you’re speaking with the public, responding to questions, or framing discussions.
Localize the message.
Customize examples to reflect your community, schools, services, and programs that people recognize. This makes the message more relevant and persuasive.
Use it consistently.
Incorporate the content across multiple channels, your website, social media, public meetings, and partner communications, to build familiarity and trust.
Amplify through others.
Share this toolkit with aligned organizations (school boards, public safety leaders, community groups) and encourage them to use the same messaging.

We are excited to provide IAAO members with content explaining why property taxes exist, how property taxes work, and what happens if property taxes are reduced or abolished. Including:
