Shannon Hiss

Assessment Advisor

Shannon Hiss currently serves as an Assessment Advisor with the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). In her role, Shannon’s primary focus is advocacy and education for assessment professionals. She frequently consults with jurisdictions seeking to improve office operations and better align with IAAO’s 16 Technical Standards and industry practices.

During her time with IAAO, Shannon has assisted jurisdictions with their first complete reassessment project in 60 years, reviewed a bespoke residential modeling program for an international client, and helped a jurisdiction evaluate best practices and internal operations in preparation for the revaluation of unique-use properties. She also serves as a Senior Instructor with IAAO and is an approved instructor with the Kansas Real Estate Appraisal Board, regularly providing qualifying and continuing education classes for appraisers throughout Kansas.

Prior to joining IAAO, Shannon spent 15 years at the Johnson County (KS) Appraiser’s Office, where she valued both residential and commercial real estate, established commercial land values throughout the county, and modeled depreciation for the commercial property file. Shannon holds the Residential Evaluation Specialist designation from IAAO and is a Registered Mass Appraiser with the State of Kansas. She continues to lead educational offerings for IAAO and provide classes and training opportunities at conferences nationwide.
