The 2026 IAAO Legal Seminar will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, Dec. 10-11. 2026, at the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel and registration will open in the summer. During the seminar attendees will hear from industry experts on legal topics of interest to members of the assessment and property tax industry.
Call for Presentations
The IAAO Legal Committee is currently seeking qualified professionals to present topics of interest to attorneys and assessors.
The following topics are encouraged:
- Effective representation
- Public policy and ethics
- Unique valuation problems
- Valuation issues assessing affordable housing communities created through public private partnerships
- E-filing systems and programs – how those systems impact legal practice and data mining – the pros/ cons
- Assessment uniformity and discrimination in under-assessment
- Cross-examination tools
- Preferential assessments – varying interpretations and unintended consequences
- Legislation – varying interpretations and unintended consequences
- How to read/draft legislation
- How to properly consider the legal application of pending legislation
- Senior exemption and freeze fraud issues
- Residential-level fraud from multiuse, primarily commercial
- Repurposing of anchor department stores at malls
- Assessments and appeals of senior housing, data centers, distribution centers, and warehouses
- Anatomy of a tax assessment case
- Climate change: impact on assessing real estate
- Legislative challenges and changes to the real property tax
- Upzoning and ADUs
The deadline to submit a proposal is Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Use the presentation proposal form to submit topics. Due to Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) requirements, speakers must submit a completed written paper or detailed outline by October 1, which will be reviewed by various state MCLE commissions. PowerPoint slides cannot be accepted for the MCLE review process. Speakers who cannot meet this deadline will not be considered.

Submit 2026 IAAO Legal Seminar Presentation ProposalContinuing Legal Education
Continuing Legal Education credits (CLEs) will be available, and IAAO will seek approval for continuing legal education credits for states that are requested by Oct. 1. The amount of CLE credit varies by state. Requests for CLE credit must be made no later than Oct. 1. Note: Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits are not the same as CEUs. Registration
Registration will open in July and attendees will be able to register online. Fees will be $680 for IAAO members and $905 for nonmembers until Nov. 6. From Nov. 7 to Nov. 27, fees increase to $795 for members and $1075 for nonmembers. After Nov. 27, the onsite registration rate is $955 for members and $1285 for nonmembers.
Presenters will receive a discounted rate of $480, with an expected maximum of two discounts awarded per session.
Hotel Reservations
The Legal Seminar will take place at the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel. Attendees can reserve hotel rooms, starting at $249. The IAAO room block will be available for reservations in July. The deadline to reserve a room in the IAAO room block is Nov. 9.
The hotel is located in the heart of the re-energized Midtown Arts District which also includes nearby attractions like Piedmont Park, Georgia Aquarium, and the Fox Theater.
