The Appraisal Foundation is responsible for setting congressionally authorized standards and qualifications for real estate appraisers and provide voluntary guidance for all valuation professionals. It is TAF’s mission to advance the valuation profession by setting standards of excellence, promoting education and upholding the public trust.
In 2025 TAF announced the formation of a State Harmonization Task Force focused on helping states in removing unnecessary regulatory overlays that may be creating unintended barriers to entry into the profession – particularly in the area of mass appraisal. IAAO Assessment Advisor Shannon Hiss, RES, was appointed to the Task Force.
While the State Harmonization Task Force will ultimately focus on all licensure requirements that exceed the criteria, it is beginning with ad valorem experience and mass appraisal pathways.
These areas represent an existing pool of highly qualified applicants who are ready to join the profession – and the task force wants to help states recognize and take advantage of this opportunity.
The task force has met with regulators in North Carolina, presented at AARO, and has several more conversations scheduled.
