Kirk Boone

Board Candidate – Region 3

KIRK BOONE, PPS, AAS, FIAAO
Teaching Associate Professor
UNC School of Government Chapel Hill, North Carolina

From my first IAAO Course in 1993, to becoming an IAAO instructor in 1998, earning my first designation in 2005, and being named an IAAO Fellow last year, IAAO has always been a major part of my career. With more than 33 years in the assessment profession and over 25 years as an IAAO member, I am honored to seek a seat on the IAAO Board of Directors. My career has combined local government service, consulting, and academic leadership—always focused on advancing fair and equitable property tax assessment.

I have taught around 100 IAAO courses and co-authored multiple IAAO courses, workshops, and designation exams. I co-authored the cover article “Recognizing Signs of Human Trafficking—Property Tax Assessors Can Help Save Lives” (Fair & Equitable, October 2020) and led related IAAO webinars and conference sessions. Internationally, I have helped build relationships to expand IAAO’s reach, supporting scholarship and partnerships in Poland.

Locally, I serve on committees for IAAO’s North Carolina Affiliate and was honored with UNC’s Distinguished Term Professorship for teaching and service.

If elected, I will champion IAAO’s strategic plan by expanding access to professional development, especially for early-career appraisers; strengthening engagement through mentorship and chapter involvement; and advocating for innovation that keeps our standards current and credible. I believe in teamwork, respect, and ethical stewardship—and I am committed to helping IAAO continue to lead our profession globally.
