Call for Abstracts for the IAAO 12th International Research Symposium

April 5-6, 2018 - Prague, Czech Republic

The International Association of Assessing Officers is proud to announce that the 12th International Research Symposium will be held April 5-6th, 2018, at the Boscolo Prague Hotel in Prague, the capitol and largest city of the Czech Republic. On April 4th, prior to the International Research Symposium, the IAAO will also conduct a pre-symposium technical workshop.

The IAAO was accepting abstract submissions for programs for the symposium. The deadline to submit abstracts was October 6th, 2017.

The International Research Symposium is an annual event offering an exploration of the intersection of public policy and mass appraisal standards, guidance, and implementation challenges. Our focus remains on the exchange of knowledge and emerging trends for continuous improvement of land administration and property tax systems world-wide.

The international application of IAAO Standards and those of partner organizations will continue to be demonstrated in wide-ranging presentations offering both practical application and practitioner lessons learned in the implementation of sound tax policy and global governance. Presentations will continue to highlight emerging technologies in the development of land administration systems, how to deal with unique properties, and the latest innovations in mass appraisal modeling.

The 12th IAAO International Research Symposium is a premier opportunity to continue to share government ideas and implementations in property valuation and land administration systems. The goal is continual discovery and sharing of emerging industry best practices from the latest research and innovations created by leaders from across the world.

Benefits of Participating

Participants in the 10th International Research Symposium held in Amsterdam in 2016 discovered that there is considerable similarity in problems and concerns among their counterparts in other nations. These similarities create a common language across property valuation jurisdictions and land administration systems for all practitioners.

It is really important to benchmark where one is both individually and as a country and to continually expand our knowledge of international best practices. I believe the symposium was a success and the principle of expanding international best practice came across loud and clear from our perspective.

Symposium attendees will leave with a greater understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their own systems and the possibilities through innovation that can be achieved. The atmosphere of this unique experience is one of engaged conversation during presentations and continuous informal information exchange.

The two-day symposium will feature the continued exploration of mass appraisal valuation and innovation featuring the topics initiated during previous symposiums. Topics will continue to include:
  • Automated valuation models (AVM’s)
  • Innovations using GIS technologies in valuation and land administration
  • Updated industry guidelines and standards
  • Implementation challenges facing governments and valuation administrators
  • Emerging issues in tax policy and the assessment industry spurred by our changing economy
  • Presentation submissions in other content areas are also welcome
Effective valuation and assessment of land and property is an essential element of a stable economy. This event is an opportunity to gather information on the latest developments in techniques and practice.
- David Magor, OBE, Executive Director, IRRV
