Session Track Descriptions

Commercial

This track focuses on a wide variety of topics important to the assessment of commercial property. Topics include application of the cost and income approaches, intangible valuation challenges, site inspections of industrial properties, and a tour of a green building.

Residential

Residential topics within this track focus on construction details, valuation of land, depreciation, and energy efficiency including solar panels. Other presentations highlight desktop review and temporary environmental impact on values.

Legal and Legislative

Presentations will focus on defense in value appeals, how to use experts and evidence, TIF’s, and assessors’ interaction in the legislative process. A two-part session will highlight one county’s experience with a mandated revaluation.

Management and Personal Development

Every day you deal with challenges in your offices from people to finances to technology. Sessions will assist you in improving the atmosphere of your office and business processes.

Technology Trends and Tools

This track focus is on the latest advances in technologies including drones, electronic notices, use of spreadsheets and pivot tables, GIS, and improved field data collections.

Special Issues

The sessions included in this track are on a variety of subjects including international insights important to assessors around the globe. Unique topics include disaster planning and recovery, communications, valuation of motor vehicles, and demonstrating report grading.

Education in Action

This track will provide attendees information about the issues and projects facing IAAO locally, nationally and internationally.

Mass Appraisal

Presentations in this track examine statistical analysis, data verification, AVM’s, regression modeling, PRB’s, and mass appraisal of office buildings including examples from around the globe.
