FAQs for 2019 Conference

Where is the 2019 Annual Conference being held?

The 85th IAAO Annual Conference will take place in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada from September 8-12, 2019.

Do I need a passport to attend the conference?

All United States citizens (including minors) entering Canada will need a valid U.S. Passport.  A visa is not required for U.S. citizens entering Canada from the United States.  As a rule, your passport should have 6 months of validity left at the conclusion of your travel to Canada. A U.S. Passport Card is only valid when crossing the U.S./Canadian border by car. It is not a valid ID for entering or exiting Canada by plane.

Attendees that are not U.S. citizens should consult the Passport/Visa authority of their country of citizenship for specific travel requirements.

How do I apply for (or renew) a U.S. Passport?

Detailed instructions for applying and/or renewing a U.S. passport can be found on the U.S. Department of State website. The website also provides up to date information on travel alerts, safety and security, and all other international travel concerns or questions.

How long does it take to get a U.S. Passport?

Processing times can vary depending on the time of year, and occasional unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters. During busier times, such as the summer travel season, the State Department encourages customers to expedite their applications if traveling in less than six weeks. See Application Processing Times for more information.

The Niagara Falls area is served by two airports:

Buffalo Niagara International Airport (FAA Code: BUF)
The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is approximately 30 miles from the location of the conference.

Will my U.S. cell phone work in Canada?

Most U.S. cell phones will function in Canada, however – your carrier will likely charge international rates and data plan fees for roaming while in Canada.  We strongly suggest that you contact your cell phone service provider to determine what your options (and costs) are for utilizing your cell phone while in Canada.

Will I have access to WiFi in the Marriott Hotels and the Scotiabank Convention Centre?

Both designated Marriott Hotels provide in-room internet free of charge to Marriott Rewards members. Most public areas of the hotel(s) have free internet access as well.  The Scotiabank Centre provides very basic (low bandwidth) WiFi in the public spaces of the facility.
