Early registration deadline for Legal Seminar is Nov. 2
 
November 2 is the early registration deadline for the 41st Annual Legal Seminar, Dec. 3-4, 2020 in Austin, Texas, at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown. The seminar will cover legal topics of interest to members of the assessment and property tax industry.
 
Topics for the two-day seminar include recent developments in real property taxation, cost of equity relevance to valuation of a public utility, valuation of renewable energy facilities, the impact of Covid-19 on hotel and restaurant values, equal protection challenges in property tax cases, public officials dealing with sovereign citizens, and ethics for lawyers.

Registration
Attendees may register online or submit a paper form with payment. Fees are $500 for IAAO members and $700 for nonmembers until Nov. 2. After that date, fees increase to $550 for members and $750 for nonmembers. For more information, see the registration and hotel page or download the brochure. 
 
Hotel
The seminar will take place at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown. The room rate for attendees is $211 per night, plus various taxes. For more information, see the registration and hotel page. The hotel is implementing new protocols to create a safe meeting environment.  The new procedures begin with the health of the staff and continue with elevated cleaning standards throughout the hotel and meeting space. Scholarships available
The IAAO Scholarship Fund exists for the purpose of promoting ad valorem appraisal professionalism. The Scholarship Fund is available to all IAAO members who need financial assistance to attend IAAO educational activities, including the Legal Seminar. The application can be found on the IAAO website under the Resources menu and must be submitted no later than 30 days before to the event. The maximum award for this event is $1,250 per recipient. Recertification credit & CLE hours
IAAO professional designees can earn up to 13.5 recertification credit hours for attending the seminar. Lawyers will receive a uniform certificate of attendance on the second day of the seminar for filing with their state.
 
IAAO is seeking CLE credit approval for states that were requested before Oct. 2. IAAO cannot guarantee it will be able to apply for CLE approval for states requested after Oct. 2.
 
Please indicate state(s) and lawyer registration number(s) when you register online or on the registration form. IAAO cannot guarantee that states will approve the seminar for CLE accreditation.
