IAAO now accepting applications for DEI Council
IAAO is now accepting applications from members to serve on the newly formed Diversity Council. Members interested in serving on the council should complete the application (link below) by October 2.
The DEI Council will serve as a strategic partner, listening post and sounding board to the Board of Directors and will make recommendations to the Board that advance an inclusive culture, foster DEI principles and efforts, and support measurable goal achievement. The DEI Council also will promote efforts to ensure DEI is recognized as a primary organizational value
IAAO currently has a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, however task forces are organized to complete a project and disband. The DEI Council will be an ongoing group in IAAO.
The Diversity Council will consist of nine regular members and the Past President. The Diversity Council members will reflect a wide continuum of representation including racial/ethnic, gender, generational, industry experience, jurisdictional size, and geography.
Appointed members will serve for staggered 3-year terms and initially the Council will be established with three categories of membership: one-year, two-year, and three-year terms. Council members who complete their initial term may apply for an additional term. After the second term, the member must take a one-year break before applying again to the Council.
IAAO members approved the formation of councils as part of the special election in 2024 to ratify additions to the IAAO bylaws. The vote approved changes to allow for the formation of Councils and Affinity Groups.
