The San Francisco Chronicle recently found that the company has appealed tax assessments in Santa Clara County, California, 489 times since 2004, and has disputed taxes on $8.5 billion in property value. While Apple isn't unique in disputing taxes, there are some cases of the company have real differences with local tax authorities. Read more

Registration is open for the IAAO 39th Annual Legal Seminar being held in Chicago on Dec. 13-14, 2018 at the Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile. This two-day seminar will cover recent developments in real property taxation, wind farm improvements and asset appraisal, challenges in the valuation of special purpose properties, litigation strategies for big box properties, and ethical conundrums for attorneys. + FGDC seeks nominations for National Geospatial Advisory Committee >
The United States Department of the Interior and the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) are seeking nominations for appointment to the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC). The NGAC provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior through the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). The NGAC reviews and comments on geospatial policy and management issues and provides a forum for views of non-Federal stakeholders in the geospatial community.  Nominations for appointment to the NGAC should be submitted by August 27, 2018. Read more
 
+ Mapping and Modeling sessions deadline is Aug. 24 >
IAAO is offering introductory and advanced pre-conference workshops on mapping and modeling to take place on Sunday, September 23. Registration for each workshop is available online or by using the registration form and the fee is $125 for members and $220 for nonmembers. Participants must be registered for the sessions by August 24 and the sessions require a minimum of 20 students and a maximum of 50. Read more

The Friends of the Paul V. Corusy Memorial Library Matching Campaign has set a fund-raising goal of $10,000 this year. Peter Korpacz of Korpacz Realty will match $2,500 in donations and Mark Kenney of American Valuation Group, Inc. will match an additional $2,500. Attendees at the 2018 Annual IAAO Conference in Minneapolis can make a donation onsite or you may contact the library. The campaign’s current project is supporting the library’s new Research Exchange digital repository.Research Exchange

Any landlord leasing a rent-controlled apartment to a corporation without first getting a removal permit from the Rent Control Board is running afoul of the law, according to the Board’s top lawyer, J.
