IAAO, URISA and Esri are collaborating to create a new GIS for Assessors
book and are looking for contributors from jurisdictions of all sizes
to reflect a wide range of perspectives. This book is intended to
benefit people across the entire GIS experience spectrum, from the
occasional user to those using it every day, and from those in small and
mid-sized offices to large jurisdictions. Each chapter will detail
applications of GIS technology directly related to land administration
and property taxes, and we would love to potentially feature your
jurisdiction.

Ontario's
divisional court has rejected Via Rail's argument that the non-leased
parts of the train company's Ottawa station should have an assessment
value of only $10. Via claimed there is no market for the station on
Tremblay Road. The station, which is designated under the federal
Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act, attracts little operating
income since the business is financially backstopped by the federal
government and the building has little value other than being for the
public good, the company argued.

Lowe's
is a home-improvement center behemoth with more than 1,800 stores
registering $59.1 billion in annual retail sales in 2015, a nearly
18-percent leap in five years. But the North Carolina-based chain, in a
sweeping effort throughout the U.S., including Alabama, to slash its
taxes, wants courts to re-evaluate the market value of its stores,
basically assigning them the same value as an empty building.

County
residents with flood damage to their living spaces could qualify for a
property tax abatement or credit. But in order to be eligible, residents
need to have the Waseca County Assessor's Office examine the damage.
County Assessor Joe Udermann says the county has received many calls
from residents whose homes have been affected by flooding that occurred
after an estimated 14 inches of rainfall in the area from Sept. 21 to
22.

Have you ever thrown a small pebble into a pond a noticed the ripples
that emanate from the center? Or thrown a bigger stone and watched its
