Facebook
could get hit with a tax bill between $3 billion and $5 billion from
the Internal Revenue Service that would have a "material" impact on the
company, the technology giant said in a filing.
The IRS is investigating Facebook for the tax years 2008 through 2013,
according to the filing. Facebook says it received notice on July 27
that it may have understated assets by billions of dollars when it
transferred them to an Irish subsidiary in 2010.

Anne
McDermott had braced herself for a big increase in the property taxes
on her Near South Side town home, but when she opened the bill last
month, she was still taken aback.
She'd figured a boost of maybe $550 on the $4,214 she paid last year.
That's a jump of about 13 percent, the average increase on Chicago
property tax bills for 2016. But McDermott's bill went up by nearly
$1,360 — more than 32 percent.

The
government’s decision to empower the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to

judgement that prohibits the state from delegating such powers to its
organs.
President Mamnoon Hussain promulgated the Income Tax (2nd Amendment)
Ordinance 2016 to give immediate effect to a property valuation
agreement between the government and the realty sector.

Erie
officials are mulling a decision to revoke the tax-exempt status of a
local hospital. Erie County Director of Assessment Scott Maas said
Millcreek Community Hospital has outgrown its tax exemption and the tax
board will now work to determine its status.
The hospital applied for an exemption in 2001 and it has been exempt all
these years, Maas said, “but in the same time, it has grown by leaps
and bounds.”

City officials want to spare homeowners from steep increases in
property taxes in a way that no Rhode Island community has tried in
recent memory — and that some experts warn is inherently unfair to all
property owners.
Amid a drumbeat of criticism over soaring assessments for some
waterfront properties, the City Council this month agreed to seek
General Assembly approval to cap assessment increases at 15 percent over
the previous year. It’s an idea that could spread to other communities
where taxpayers have revolted against assessments on seaside residences.

I
do a lot of work with senior management teams, and they’re sort of like
people: no two are exactly alike, though they share a lot of common
characteristics. Senior management teams are obviously very powerful,
and I think they should be wielding that power with great skill and
precision, which is not always the case. Here are four tips to help you
move in the right direction (and not one involves a trust fall):
