RE: IAAO Weekly Update
With assessors’ offices closed across the globe, and employees working remotely or furloughed, many are looking for ways to remain engaged in our industry. Eventually, offices will open again, and we will be back appraising and valuing properties and working with the public. While offices are closed however, we encourage members who have the time and resources to work on their skills. IAAO has many options to choose from, online self-study courses, cohort courses, live online courses, webinars and more.
IAAO is currently conducting a survey regarding member’s educational needs, so please fill it out and tell us what we can do for you. We will review our offerings and update them as needed by our members. The following outlines some of our current educational options:
IAAO Courses - IAAO is offering a self-study version of Course 101 - Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal and a cohort version is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 6. Course 201 - Appraisal of Land and Course 112 - Income Approach to Valuation II will be offered as "live online" courses, which includes the digital delivery of course materials and an online exam. IAAO is pleased to offer several discounts during April including 30% off course 112 using code 30OFF112. All other online courses are available for 15% off the member rate during April. Use code ECOURSE15OFF to receive the 15% discount.
Leadership Course – In addition to our appraisal related courses, IAAO partners with the National Association of Counties High Performance Leadership Academy to present a 12 week online leadership academy, - the next cohort starts April 20, get signed up NOW! The Academy empowers county government professionals and provides fundamental leadership skills they need to be successful in their careers. I participated in a cohort last year, and highly recommend it. The enrollment fee is $1,995 per participant, but the first enrollee from each NACo member county will receive a one-time NACo scholarship of $1,000 and a $500 discount, bringing the enrollment price down to $495. Webinars – IAAO offers live and recorded webinars, and during April we are offering 50% off any previously recorded webinar. IAAO members can use coupon code WEBINAR50OFF for the webinar discount. A live webinar “Excel Can Do That?! Part 3” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15. IAAO is always looking for new webinar topics and presenters, if you are interested contact Erin Eades at eades@iaao.org for more information, or fill out the submission form.
In addition to IAAO webinars we are pleased to be partnering with Esri to provide a free webinar on GIS tools, templates and free resources for COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 8. Please sign up now, you won’t want to miss it!
Events – IAAO will need to be prepared when our office re-opens and we return to a more regular routine. In the interim with the help of the Legal Task Force, we are continuing to plan for the Prep & Trial Seminar in June, in Des Moines. And the Local Host Committee and the Conference Committee are still working hard to prepare for the Annual Conference set for August, in Denver.
We are keeping a close watch on government orders and recommendations regarding public events, but we must be ready when we are allowed to meet again, and we ask that you keep these events in mind.
