RE: IAAO Update

We are truly living through a unique period in history. Things are changing so rapidly, what happened just a week ago now seems like ages ago. At the same time, with so many of us at home without our usual interaction with co-workers, it can seem the days last forever. It is our hope that you are able to stay grounded while maintaining a sense of normalcy and calm.

Even though the IAAO headquarters team is not currently in the office, they are working diligently from home. We want to update you on what is happening and what we are doing to assist members. During this time of crisis, we also hope to email you each week with an update on programs, events, and resources.

Realizing that many of our members are not in their offices either, IAAO will be sending out the April Fair+Equitable magazine via email next week. Other important items of note:

Classes - IAAO is now offering a self-study version of Course 101 - Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal and a cohort version is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 6. We plan on rolling out addition class offerings in April, including Course 201 - Appraisal of Land and Course 112 - Income Approach to Valuation II as “live online” courses, which includes the digital delivery of course materials and an online exam.

To assist members with their educational needs, during the month of April, all online courses will be discounted 15%. Just use code ECOURSE15OFF during checkout to receive the benefit.

In addition, IAAO is working with education coordinators to turn cancelled in-person classes into “live online” courses. The first course offered in this format was Course 102 - Income Approach to Valuation in Massachusetts, while North Carolina will educate students using the “live online” format for Workshop 100 - Understanding Real Property Appraisal in April. We look forward to learning from the coordinators and instructors of these events and sharing best practices with coordinators who want to offer classes using the “live online” platform.

Webinars - IAAO offers a monthly webinar on important and useful topics for members. The April webinar is on "Excel Can Do That? Part 3." To assist IAAO members, during the month of April we are offering 50% off any previously recorded webinar, such as Part 1 and Part 2 of the Excel series. Use coupon code WEBINAR50OFF during checkout, from April 1-30 to receive your 50% discount on a previously recorded webinar.

Resources - IAAO established a new online community in IAAO Connect. The new community was created to assist assessors and valuers from around the world with issues regarding the COVID-19 virus. It is our hope that you will share resources, ideas, and participate in discussions that can help us navigate these waters together. IAAO has also collected a number of online resources and we hope you will find them useful.

Events - Planning for the Prep & Trial Seminar in June in Des Moines continues, as does planning for the Annual Conference in August in Denver. We are paying close attention to the news, but remain hopeful that we will be able to offer both events as scheduled.

As the weather warms, we see new beginnings and we hope better days are in our future. We will continue to grow our education and other programs to meet your needs, and we plan to strategically align with our business partners on ways to provide you additional resources and education. If you have suggestions or questions, please contact us at membership@iaao.org.

On behalf of the IAAO Board of Directors and our headquarters team, we wish you and your family health and safety during this difficult time.
